I just moved across the country with two cats and 40+ pounds of frozen meat. And honestly, Reader, it might’ve been the most deliciously well-prepared move I’ve ever made. I left the Seattle area last week and drove for five days to my new home in North Central Florida. That’s 3,000 miles of road, rest stops, hotel rooms, and not a single convenience food stop – not because I’m a purist, but because I brought everything I needed. And yes, that included a cooler full of pasture-raised, corn and soy-free chickens, salmon roe, beef roasts, liver, and a pork chop. Let’s talk logistics...
Five days later, when I unpacked it here in Florida, most of the food was still fully frozen – or cold enough to pop back in the freezer. Not bad for a bunch of chickens crossing the country! Up front in the car with me? A mini-fridge bag of:
I had planned for dinner salads with leftover roasted chicken or sardines, but at night I was too road-weary to eat. And somehow, even after 10-hour driving days, I never craved junk food. My brain stayed clear, my belly happy, and my digestion on track. What made it doable? No “just in case” junk food. No “I’ll just grab something later.” I brought what my gut thrives on – and it was worth every ounce of planning. You don’t have to go full chickens-in-a-cooler like me, but if you want to stock your pantry with gut-friendly travel staples – or ship regenerative meats straight to your door – grab a copy of my Where Can I Buy It? ebook, on sale for $5 off now.
